Welfare, Social and Outreach

Project Arusha

Started in 2004 by St Mary’s and Holy Family Parishes in Derby, Project Arusha has the following objectives:

To provide an opportunity for some of our young people who have recently left school from Year 13 to meet and work with students in schools in Arusha, a large town in northern Tanzania, East Africa.

To create a personal and a spiritual development opportunity for our young people by their encounter with people from a different culture, who are materially less fortunate than themselves, and whose values may be quite different from their own.

To help our parishioners and the students in our schools to focus on the wider Church by better understanding the lives and the needs of our fellow Catholic Christians in a diocese in the developing world.

To give financial support to named schools in Arusha – to assist with the education of students from poorer families, and to help the schools with other projects which may otherwise not be affordable.
